How to touch up an image in Photoshop using the Clone Stamp Tool: step by step guide!
In this tutorial you will learn how to use one of the core tools to touch up an image in Photoshop.
What is the Clone Stamp Tool? The Clone Stamp Tool is one of the best ways to remove any unwanted objects or blemishes from an image by duplicating pixels.
Step 1: Where to find the Clone Stamp Tool
Open up your image in photoshop.
Its always a good idea to duplicate your image, to make sure any changes you make aren't permanent by going back to your original image.
You can find the Clone Stamp Tool in the tool bar on the left hand side of the page.
Step 2: Select a clone brush
Set the size of the clone stamp tool to cover the object you are wanting to remove.
To make your cloned area blend in nicely and apear natural, it is important to select the correct brush. A soft brush will acheive nice smooth edges.
Now you have the size and brush selected, move the cursor to the area you want to take pixels from. In this case I need the main yellow colour of the sunflowers.
To select the pixels press Alt-click. This will change the cursor into crosshairs, the moment you click the cursor will change and reveal the pixels you’ve cloned.
Step 3: Removing unwanted objects/blemishes
Now you can start painting over the object you want to remove. Repeat this until everything looks natural.
Be aware of patterns forming, this will give away the fact that you have cloned pixels and removed an object. If this happens just simply go back by using the keyboard short cut Command+Z.
Playing around with the brush sizes and softness to suit can also help to acheive a nice natural finish.
As you can see the little blemishes have disappeared from my artwork, leaving a nice natural finish.
