Designer of the Month: Kelly Hood

Our ‘Designer of the Month’ for August is the lovely Kelly Hood. Kelly uses oils and mixed media (flint, zinc flakes, Italian marble and pumice) on linen canvas. Her technique of building thin layers of paint allows her to create a depth of colour and tone.

Kelly’s style of photo-realism results in extremely detailed pieces of artwork. The subject for the majority of her paintings is the mundane aspects of life which often go un-noticed. The paintings are formed from monochrome colours due to Kelly being inspired by black and white photographs of her family. As well as Mother Nature being hugely influential, modern painters such as Otto Duecker, Beatrix Potter and John Baeder play a huge part in Kelly’s artwork.

Kelly studied at the Limerick School of Art and Design. She began painting professionally in 2001 and loves to paint what she sees to produce pieces of art which are a reflection of who she is.

We have fallen in love with Kelly’s art and especially like the below piece we printed for her titled ‘Peek a Moo’.
