In our Factory: Progression of a Print
Ever wondered how our fantastic products are created? Read on to find out exactly how they are….
Once we have received an order, this is then processed and an order confirmation is sent to the customer.

Details of the customer’s order are sent up to our art department. A member of the art department makes sure that the artwork is ready for going ahead to be printed. When they are happy with the artwork, they will send a proof to the customer. As soon as the customer approves the proof, the film can be printed.

At this stage the screen needs to be made up. The first stage is to place the template (film) onto the screen.

The screen then needs to be exposed – this will allow the image to be burned onto the screen.
The next step is to wash the screen. By doing this, the ink will be enabled to come through the screen in the necessary areas of the design.

The screen is then left to dry. Once completely dry, the process of spotting can take place. This is required to get rid of any registration marks that we don’t want to appear on the final print.

The screen is then re-exposed for the final set up of the screen.

The final stage is to tape the edges of the screen using gum tape. The screen is now ready for printing.
The screen is placed into our carousel printing machine and the printing can begin!

The tea towels are then put through the dryer.

With this bleed off print, the tea towel then needed to be hemmed after printing.
Once the hemming had been done, the tea towels were all ready to be sent to the customer.
